Who This Is For?
This day is ideal if you are:
- a road runner curious about trail running
- new to trail running and wanting some structure
- looking to build confidence off-road
- wanting a more relaxed, enjoyable running experience
You don’t need to be fast.
You just need to be comfortable running (or run/walking) for around an hour at an easy pace. If you can manage a 12-minute/mile pace across a field, that’s just perfect!
Maybe you are you one of the many people who have thought about giving trail running a go … but are just not quite sure where to start?
Maybe you’ve seen people out on the trails and thought:
- “I’d like to try that…”
- “But I don’t know where to begin”
- “What if I’m too slow?”
- “What do I even need to take with me?”
You’re not alone. I hadn’t much of a clue when I started, and have learned the hard way!
What This Is Not
- This is not a race
- This is not an advanced training session
- This is not about speed or performance
Trail Running Is Different (In a Good Way)
Perhaps the most appealing aspects about Trail running is that it simply isn’t about pace, splits, or chasing times.
It’s all about:
- moving at your own effort
- being outdoors, listening to the sounds of nature, breathing in the fresh air
- learning how to handle different terrain
- and, most importantly of all, actually enjoying the run
But that difference can also be what makes it feel a bit daunting at first.
This Day Is Designed To Change That
This is a small-group, guided introduction to trail running, designed to help you feel confident, capable, and ready to explore trails on your own.
No pressure.
Just 6 to 8 participants so I can give you all the personal attention you deserve
There’ll be no racing.
No one will ever be left behind.
This will be a relaxed, structured day where you’ll learn by doing.
What You Should Expect:
- a relaxed, supportive atmosphere
- plenty of stops to learn and reset
- a mix of running, walking, and discussion
- a mid-run coffee break
- a small group where everyone is included. I’m deliberately keeping the numbers really low so you all get the most out of the day.
What The Day Looks Like
The day is built around a simple rhythm:
learn → run → reflect → repeat
We’ll start with a guided warm up, then build through a mix of short running and strength sessions, as well as some practical runs.
Across the day, you’ll cover:
- how trail running differs from road running
- how to manage effort (especially on hills)
- basic technique for uneven terrain
- simple fuelling and hydration strategies
- essential kit (what you need — and what you don’t)
- strength basics for trail running
Of course, we’ll also head out onto the trails to put it all into practice, some come dressed for action!
The Setting
The day takes place at Ecton House, a private country house set in the Northamptonshire countryside.
You’ll have access to:
- a private indoor space for learning sessions
- gardens for movement and strength work
- quiet local trails right from the door
We’ll also head out across the fields to a nearby reservoir for a hill training session. Even better, there’s a coffee shop right there so we can recharge our batteries.
This isn’t just a course - It’s a day out in the countryside, with purpose.
What You’ll Leave With
By the end of the day, you’ll feel:
- more confident on trails
- more comfortable managing terrain and effort
- clearer on what kit and nutrition you need
- ready to head out and explore on your own
