Product Review - Grenade White Chocolate Energy Bar
Quick Verdict
- Best for: A treat-style energy boost between gels
- Standout: Feels like a chocolate bar, not “fuel”
- Downside: Slightly chewy with a bit of a crash later
Overall: A really solid addition to your fuelling options
Pros
- Feels like a proper treat
- Easy to eat in stages
- Good texture - chewy but manageable
- Nice change from gels
- Versatile — running, hiking, everyday use
Cons
- Can be slightly chewy at times
- Energy can drop off later
- Easy to rely on too much if you’re not careful
On the Run
This is one of those rare bits of running fuel that actually feels like a treat.
Big bite or small nibble — it works either way. Easy to chomp, easy to manage on the move, and something you can come back to throughout a run. Take a bite, fold the wrapper, and carry on.
Texture-wise, it can be slightly chewy, but never to the point where it becomes a problem. In fact, that bit of substance makes it a welcome change from gels.
How It Feels
There’s a noticeable and fairly immediate lift — more than you might expect from something that feels like a chocolate bar.
That said, there can be a bit of a drop later, so it works best as part of a wider fuelling mix rather than on its own.
Think of it as a bridge between gels, not a replacement.
When to Use It
- Mid-run as a break from gels
- Longer efforts where you want something solid
- Trail runs or hikes where eating is easier
For me:
One per run (up to ~50k) is enough
I’ll usually mix it in with other options — nuts, gels, etc.
The Flavour
White Chocolate Cookie was always going to be a winner for me — and it doesn’t disappoint.
Sweet, slightly indulgent, and definitely more “treat” than “fuel”.
There are even more dessert-style versions in the range (including a Creme Egg-style one), which feel slightly off-brand for something called Grenade — but they work.
Verdict
A really solid addition to your fuelling options.
Not something to base everything around, but:
perfect when gels start to lose their appeal
And honestly — I’ll sometimes grab one for no reason other than I quite like them.
