Energy Bars
Energy bars can be a great option when you want something more substantial than a gel — especially on longer runs or when you’re out for a while.
That said, they’re not all equal. Texture, taste, and how easy they are to eat on the move can vary a lot.
These reviews are based on my own experience using them on the trail. What works for me may not work for everyone, but the aim is to give a clear, honest view to help you find what suits you.
1 – Grenade: White Chocolate Cookie (Best Overall)
- A treat-style energy boost between gels
- Feels like a chocolate bar, not “fuel”
- Slightly chewy with a bit of a crash later
Verdict: A really solid addition to your fuelling options. Not something to base everything around, but: perfect when gels start to lose their appeal And honestly — I’ll sometimes grab one for no reason other than I quite like them.
2 – Chia Charge Energy Bar (Sea Salt Flake)
- Natural-feeling energy and hunger control on longer runs
- Easy to eat with a smooth, gentle energy release
- Poor packaging and very crumbly
Verdict: Great fuel inside… let down slightly by how it’s packaged .
3 – TORQ Explore Flapjack (Orange Carrot Cake)
- Compact size — easy to carry when space is limited
- Clean to handle — no sticky fingers
- Easy to eat without needing water
Verdict: This is one of the few solid fuel options that actually works well while running. It’s easy to eat, not messy, and delivers steady energy without upsetting the stomach.
